AMERICAN FOLK DECORATION

A beautiful book- and a practical book as well, with diagrams and patterns for stencil cutting andfree band decoration, and instructions by Eve Meulendyke. Miss Lipman's book established her as not only an authority in the field of American folk art, but as ascholar who had also the gift of communicating her knowledge and her enthusiasm. This book, which touches on many phases of folk decoration, confirms this earlier impression. Furniture, accessories, fabrics, tinware, architectural decoration, coach and nigh painting, fracture- these are the main divisions into which the text falls. In each section, there is something of both historical and geographical background, of the various expression to help in the choice of appropriate design; something too of the technique leading up to detailed instruction and procedure. Illustrative plates, photographic and some in color (180 in all) along with about an equal number of line drawings, make this a stunning looking book as well as an inspiring how-to-do-it book.
