FAIR EXCHANGE

With foreign exchange students an accepted part of today's national scene, too little is known about regional exchanges, which provide high schoolers with deepening perception about their own country. This is a story about an interchange between a group from Nebraska and a group from Washington state. In addition to broadening their knowledge of geographic differences, several of the students find new perspective on their individual and family problems. Terri Baumgarten had been highly critical of her mother as the only mother who could not organize her own household, but when she stays at the luxurious home of a Mrs. Cobb whose family consisted of seven boys, and whose household ran effortlessly, she gets some insight into ways in which she can help bring organization out of chaos- and learns that perhaps her mother's accomplishments in other directions provide full compensation. She goes home with a new view and heightened appreciation.
