High-school senior, Libby Gander, is suddenly transplanted from her Alaska home to Southern California after recovering from a bout with pneumonia. Here she moves reluctantly to the home of her aunt, the town librarian, and falls into the grip of desperate homesickness. But her friendship with another lonely girl--an Indian exchange student--and her involvement in trying to promote more adequate library facilities help Libby become an integrated part of the community. Romance, a good dose of library career material and a commonsense psychological approach do not quite redeem this from the limbo of contrived teen-age fiction. A tepid if inoffensive novel.
