Jean Reynolds, who first started this correspondence course with God in A Hat on the Hall Table (1967) is back again as ""Good old homemade Barbara Nelson."" Homemade she certainly is, and so are the ""lowly potroast"" and the ""plump scrambled eggs"" and frankly all those poems she addresses to Him along with anxious, questioning, grateful little alleluias. ""Lord, I've got so much to do today starting with these dirty dishes. But I'll have you in my heart as usual."" And ""O Lord, help me to stop kicking the bathroom scale."" And Lord, ""Help us to be girly girls"" (could there ever be any doubt), and O Barbie why do you have to write? ""I have to write. With my creative wings I can fly."" So O Lord, let us be kind to each fallen sparrow.
