KIRKUS REVIEW

Dr. Rosenbaum applies psychoanalysis, parts of it -- anal and oral (skipping that other phase) -- to the way we live. The automobile is our most prominent sex symbol and represents money and power (probably), the Edsel was oral and therefore failed (really?), and the driver's license is a rite de passage into maturity (maybe). Your pets, manners, handshakes, tipping, food preferences, clothes, homes, leisure, jobs, books all indicate what kind of a person you are. Women who feel unattractive do not like the mini (maybe they are unattractive and are justified). And then there's the anal child ""who enjoyed retention rather than expulsion"" and therefore ""does well as a museum curator or a librarian."" Librarians, by the way, are also ""timid"" and in this case it's a very good way to be.
