goodly flow of information about dams -- muskrat and human -- unfortunately ank in a stolid style and buried by a trio of drearily noble children. Joel Taylor and his twin sister Caroline, welcome, in spite of previous doubts, one Albert aldwin as their family's summer boarder. Bertie turns out to be rather a drag, insisting upon leaving to join his parents in Europe and is, like many a pudgy one, Cavenous for candy. However, Bertie's true bent is revealed when he engineers a clever muskrat dam, and in spite of a disastrous deal, involving candy and dynamite, with the son of a crabbed dam-hating neighbor who casts an evil eye on Mr. Taylor's community dam, Bertie saves the day, the dam and the lives of Joel and his dog, Climmie. Although children may put up with the villains (predictable mean rubes who crasp ""I reckon""), they will never stomach the heroic trio who are just too good 'to true. Humorless.
