KIRKUS REVIEW

A valuable American primitive painting of a Madonna serves as the impetus for this contrived mystery, in which irrelevant action has been artificially introduced to try to bring suspense into a minor incident. The missing masterpiece turns out to be painted over a picture hanging in the second hand store newly acquired by Flip and Nancy Allen's family. Some unevenly suspicious neighbors seem to be competing for the picture, but everyone turns out to be very chummy in the end. There are also a few feeble hints at ghosts which get lost in the limbo.
