THE STORY OF JOAN OF ARC

While this biography is adequate and sympathetic, it lacks the color and drama due Joan as a personality caught in the ironies of history. At its end we have learned what her actions and sufferings were, but they have been rather mundanely told and will not stick in the mind for long. For a better account, look at J.C. Herold's joan. Maid of France (Aladdin, 1952)- written for the 12-15 group but simple, and exciting enough for younger readers.
