The romantic figure of Buckey O'Neill is the subject of another biography, this one geared (and I'm afraid a trifle emasculated) for younger readers than the biography published last Spring by Caxton, Keithley's Buckey O'Neill. (See report P. 224) The roaring '80's are shown at their best in the person of this many-faceted character, -- fast shooter, fast liver, idealist, who started his western career as a typesetter in Phoenix, became a power in the press, in politics, in social uplift, and who lost his life as a Rough Rider at San Juan Hill. Plenty of action here, but I don't think the lusty life of the raw west gives Jeanette Baton play for her particular biographical flair.
