SIMPLE PRINTING METHODS

The methods described here are indeed simple but the author seems to have employed little more effort in their presentation than she expects from her readers. The illustrations show materials and results but never step-by-step process, and they are totally uninspiring as examples. The directions are uncomplicated and enough to give children a start with ink and roller and a notion of possible variations (string, cut paper, lace, corrugated surfaces), but -- especially in the trickier areas of rubbings and linoleum prints -- provide only the crudest introduction to techniques. This is no less adequate than existing titles at this level, but neither does it add to the least of them.
