A memorial volume to the late critic, 24 stories selected from the Best Detective Stories of the Year he edited (for six) with an introduction by his replacement at the Sunday Times Book Review, Allen J. Hubin. Miss Bernkopf has chosen the stories he favored, retained his introductory insets, and they range from old performers in the genre (Lawrence Treat and Ellery Queen) to those not associated with it (Weidman, Borges), concluding with the incomparable Shirly Jackson.
