The romance of a young marriage and of the Idaho peaks and forests gives this account of a summer fire-fighting by a former newspaperwoman its personal idiom. Jeanne and Chip began their lookout duties in a glass house 14' by 14', but isolation did not guarantee privacy as they discovered from a too constant colleague. She enjoys telling of the housekeeping, the watch for fires, the way the fires are fought, and their delight in the free western life in a country which they took to their hearts. Even smokejumping becomes a believable everyday activity.... A friendly, feminine perspective but the outlook is fairly limited.
