KIRKUS REVIEW

Eugene Field is a legend in the Middle West. Everywhere associated with him (St. Jo, St. Louis, etc.) stories are told of his practical jokes. Here is a delightful biography, filled to the brim and running over with these stories, all interwoven with the story of a strange genius, of a rocky road to success. Well born, given every chance to get a fine education. Field wasted his opportunities -- but built a personality which survived through the turn of Fortune's wheel. Good reading this.
