KIRKUS REVIEW

Idealistic historical fiction that tells of young Benny Lemoyne's stint as drummer with Col. George Rogers Clark's march on the British fort at Vincennes in 1778-9. When the regular drummer is disabled at Kaskaskia, Benny's home, Benny is given the post and marches north. On the 240 mile trek he has a bout with a buffalo hunt and some treacherous Miamis, nearly losing his drum, but escapes and is in on the victory. Neatly told but rather a repeat on the theme of George Armour Sentman's Drummer of Vincennes published as a Winston Adventure Book last year, (p. 262).
