SURPRISE FOR NANCY TEXAS PETE: LITTLE COWBOY

Pleasant little stories for easy reading with the vocabulary checked against the Rinsland Word List. Nancy, who sings little rhymes about teeth-brushing and traffic lights, has a lovely day shopping with her mother, and has a nice surprise from her father -- a bunny -- waiting for her at home. Literal illustrations by Margie Benoit. The story of Pete, a little boy who acquired a cowboy outfit piece by piece and then happily rode a pony in his regalia is superior to the other in development. Again the pictures (alternating black and white and color as the other) by Chauncey Maltman are adequate. Of average easy reading quality, but we do prefer more meat on the bones of the word list. The children here are too pallid and classroom-good, lack personality.
