KIRKUS REVIEW

The plot (and your loyalty?) diffused to a greater degree than ever before, this masque of unexplained and unrelated events takes place in England at a forge old enough to be historic. Why was Gilda Reynolds shot at? Is her mother, Maggie, crippled -- and is she really her mother? And what of the pursuits of the play producer way out there in the hinterlands, the archaeologist, and Gilda's half-brother who is most attractive. . . . Gothicated mystery which is not too believable, but in Jennie Melville's case you always forgive. . . and forget.
