The chant is an 18th-century hand-me-down, the time here is said to be Edwardian, but the language does seem to wander between then and now along with the plot which is all over the place. Let's see--there's Dorothea Clifton's arranged marriage to Sir Aubrey of Oakley Manor, although she's not just who she claims to be; and some menacing episodes on the downs preceding a real murder; and the reversal of love objects as well as identities and connections. Conglomerate nonsense lifted from various estates other than Oakley Manor but it probably won't be noticed by the ladies affianced to the genres, any which one of them.
