Finding the playground empty, Tim wants to go home, but he’s intrigued when his Mum asks what’s sitting on the obviously empty swings. Playing along, Tim imagines that there’s “a little pink pig sitting on a swing.” Soon he’s playing and laughing with his new friend. Tim’s mother encourages him to see other friends on the seesaw, the climbing frame, and the slide. By the time Tim and his menagerie of friends make it to the trampoline, his imagination doesn’t need any help, as he sees a brown hare hopping there. Back at home, Tim imagines that the shapes in his dark yard are his new friends, waiting for him to play the next day. Rough pastel illustrations rendered in bold colors enhance the rhythmic cadence of the animal sounds as they one by one begin playing along on in this imaginative tale. Children will oink, growl, and bump along with this one. (Picture book. 2-4)
