KIRKUS REVIEW

18th century romanticking takes young Anne Blythe, snatched from a girl's school in Edinburgh, in the company of her drunken doctor brother and vicious Stede Bonnet, over the ocean to the New World. Bonnet indentures Laurie and Anne and they are saved by the pirate Blackbeard whose need for a surgeon saves Laurie while his amazement at courageous, unpredictable Anne makes her his current toy. She fights off the plan for marriage, capitulates just when she meets the defeated Maynard, a Lieutenant in the British Navy, and becomes a legend in Blackbeard's crew of sea marauders. Convicted of treachery, she is marooned, rescued and plots for Maynard to bring Blackbeard to his doom. Making use of historical documents, this is still a dubious fabrication.
