Our main emotions are simply and straightforwardly explained in a book by Jerold Beim which we hope will reach and be understood by as many youngsters as possible. Carefully and clearly, the brief text opens with the way babies learn emotional expressions- by imitation. Then in older children several typical instances are particularized through reference to the Jones family -- the practical and unreasonable fears of younger children, the jealousy Dan felt when Bob was born, the ways in which they learned to work out their aggressions, and so forth. Working gradually by these definitions into a general explanation of the emotions, the last pages state the different aspects of the same emotion people can feel, how expressions help create the individual personality and the practicality of a dominant love and understanding.
