KIRKUS REVIEW

Boys love fire engines and here is a new approach to their heroes. Ricky lives in the country where the fire fighting is done by volunteers. How the volunteers work, and how Ricky gets to ride on the fire engine makes interesting, if not strongly connected material. The story flares up and dies down a few times, but most kids will probably like it for the new atmosphere and the part Ricky plays in just helping to save a burning country field which threatens a house.
