TIM AND THE TOOL CHEST

Another simple, delightful story solidly within the argot and reading ability of the elementary group. Tim and his friends became very tired of playing cowboys. ""Let's build our own house,"" Gretchen said. So Tim trotted out his father's tools and some lumber, but somehow the house didn't turn out as it should. Then Tim's Dad shows Tim how to use a hammer and nails, the screw driver, and even a saw, and soon the garage is very busy as Tim and his friends work carefully and follow the rules of good carpentry. Soon the children are allowed to work outdoors, and what fun it is to have the big boys admire the house they made all by themselves: Some fine rules for very young carpenters and the good-looking illustrations by Tracy Sugarman make this a very attractive book indeed. First and second year reading.
