KIRKUS REVIEW

Along with the preface by the editor and an introduction by Harry Golden, a well chosen collection of the chosen people from the contemporary classics, Irwin Shaw's ""Act of Faith"" and Philip Roth's ""The Conversion of the Jews,"" to a good many others, mostly modern. Older names include Stephen Vincent Benet and Edna Ferber, with a predominance of today's writers--Arthur Miller, Julius Horwitz, Leo Rosten, Joanne Greenberg, Jerome Charyn, Grace Paley, Geoffrey Household and Isaac B. Singer among the best known.
