Remarkably informal and articulate, these 14 interviews with well-known actors and actresses of the stage were planned by Lewis Funke, drama editor of the New York Times and John Booth, of the Twentieth Century Fund. Each of the interviews includes a biographical sketch, a brief description of the physical setting of the interview, and the interview itself, just as it was recorded. Some of the common threads running through most of the interviews are discussions about ""Method Acting"", the relative merits of working with a group or company over an extended period of time, acting problems peculiar to motion pictures and television work, and trends in contemporary drama. In spite of these common issues, each interview is unique, and no two people attach these problems in the same way. A great deal of intelligent and enlightening information is imparted by such varied actors as John Gielgud, Morris Carnovsky, Jose Ferrer, Maureen Stapleton, the Lunts, Sidney Poitier, and others.
