YOGA, YOUTH AND REINCARNATION by Jess Stearn

YOGA, YOUTH AND REINCARNATION

By

Publisher: Doubleday

Author Stearn went up to Concord recently and took a straight course of 100 posture and meditation exercises in Western-styled Yoga. The emphasis, while mainly on peace of mind, was less on mysticism than on physical rejuvenation. Needless to say, as with anyone who adheres to a training schedule, he came away feeling like a million rupees, Youth is not merely the carrot before the novice's nose. Youth becomes a way of life and self-attainment. The exercises are not recommended for unstable or schizoid people, but rather for ""normal"" folk with an aptitude for discipline. Steam himself went through most of the beginner's pitfalls and tried to cop out several times. He is near fifty but was discouraged-by seeming beginners ten and twenty years older than himself easily mastering what for him seemed impossible. Yet, as Was proven; the beginners who experience the greatest difficulties achieve the greatest rewards. Yoga's superiority to calisthenics is that one spends much less energy with more satisfying results. Steam covers astrology and reincarnation with an amused lack of conviction. He includes an illustrated appendix for beginners, which alone makes this book valuable. Limber enlightenment proving calisthenics I don't count.
