THE FRIENDLY PERSUASION

A very entertaining episodic story of Indiana Quakers, a generation ago -- with the sort of family feeling that made Nama's Bank Account a good book for all ages. There's delicious quiet tilting at windmills, as Jess and Eliza Birdwell, good Quakers both, occasionally find ways to compromise with their consciences. There's wit and humor and pathos, and some spiritual values.
