The race problem- in a moderate sized Ohio town- when Charley, a young Negro lad, comes with his parents to live at the home of the local doctor. They are residents- and Charley will be the first Negro child in the school. How he and the community come to terms is the theme of the book- not an easy one. Simply and rather unpretentiously handled, the book highlights the problems of children between 11 and 13. Sympathetic family and alert members of the community make possible a comfortable resolving of the problem.
