KENTUCKY IS MY LAND

Disappointing from the vigorous pen of the author of Man With a Bull Tongue Plough, this seems out of the barrel homespun verse, deliberately striving after the endearing regional flavor of earlier, more spontaneous work. With clock-like beat he celebrates the rural joys of his beloved hills. He tries his hand at a ballad of a wronged girl. He writes songs for his wife of the ""snowy sheets"", the breakfast bacon and the readiness to tramp his hills. In finale, he hymns the country school teacher who taught his pupils to build instead of destroy, and went out to practise reforestration. Local values chiefly.
