In an almost wide open field, this story of young marriage meets a need for fiction that gives teen agers something concrete on the serious problems of everyday living, with its personality problems. Penny and Craig have known each other all their young lives in their home town of Lancaster. With plans to marry assured, they bask in the conviction that their days will be the epitome of glorious accord. And then Penny begins to see the implications of Craig's over-generous nature; and Craig, conversely, the dangers in Penny's pinching ways. Marriage soon finds them at loggerheads over Craig's impetuous purchase of an unneeded washing machine, and a loan to a farmer friend. Gradually, understanding grows and intelligence finds a way to meet small family crises as other young lives have met them. The goldmine of Craig's friendships- the importance of shared financial responsibility strengthen the basis of a sound affection at the end of their first year.
