FROM OLD STENCILS TO SILK SCREENING

A beautiful book which should appeal to anyone interested in design, for both historically and pictorially this covers virtually every phase of stencil. Stencils for walls and floors, stencils for furniture, take their place along with stencils used on fabrics. With beautiful reproductions of actual pieces, the accompanying text takes the reader on an informed guide of the development and application, and techniques and equipment for actual transferring of old designs to today's uses form an integral part of each section. Stencils on fabrics, a field that has developed commercially far beyond original uses, is here simplified for the home craftsman. Look at this book as an inspiration and a background, in scope more extensive than the Hallett book (Furniture Decoration Made Easy- see report P. 784) but as a work book less specific and detailed. This text demands-for actual use- either supervision or experience, while the Hallett book is a self-teaching handbook. The author suggests that if one step at a time is taken, the processes need not prove too difficult for anyone using this text.
