KIRKUS REVIEW

Another 18th-century mystery narrated by that Bow Street Runner and ""thieftaker,"" Sturrock, in which he solves a closed room puzzle and uncovers subsidiary murders and an insurance ""take on."" Beginning with the prime murder in the ladies' dressing room of the Drury Lane Theatre, while a pageant thunders above, the investigation moves on through a duel, a chase, interviews in ""stews"" and high places and even the bower of a Valkyrian actress. Well plotted, smartly told.
