VICTORY GARDEN MANUAL

This is a handbook, not a book for reading. It is a book that should be studied, step by step, as the author analyses the relation of garden planning to nutrition and to meals; as he discusses the method that should be followed for determining what to plant, when, how much. He takes into consideration the abysmal ignorance of many ambitious victory gardeners in his simple explanation of layout, reasons for location of the garden, length of rows and distance from row to row, soil analysis and the easiest way to improve it, need bed, flats, cold frames, and so on. Then the actual process of preparation, of sowing the seed, of cultivating; how to determine identity of weeds and seedlings, right on to the final harvest. Problems of quick growers vs slow growers. How to get the most out of the space. What to plant for successive crops. And so on. I've seen only the text. The format -- judging from the type layout -- will be like a child's picture book, broad and flat, with lots of pictures illustrating the points. It seems as though it would fill a gap in the vegetable garden library shelf. I certainly plan to get it for my own.
