Jill Robinson who was Jill Schary (Dore, remember) is now a Hollywood child grown up, disenchanted at the start of this her own Bed/Time/Story/Hour but functioning -- doing her own talk shows or writing for Cosmo in between the times -- they're few -- she's spaced out on speed gum. Actually she sounds like a combo of Joan Didion and Linda Goodman of the Sun Signs. Anyway this is mostly about her love for Lawrence, the ""essence of hip"" and a mad mathematician. He's an alcoholic who best applies his math at the poker table. Together they cover the whole scene from Esalen to Al-Anon rand he helps her through her crisis at a New York drug clinic and at the end she helps him through his destructive depression-cum-alcoholism and you'll be glad to know they're going to live happily ever after. Perhaps not after a sentence like ""his liquids. . .coursing through all her infinite verities."" Esssentially uplift in the form of a cute-chic downer.
