KIRKUS REVIEW

As a young Pacific Coast League player, Ron Santo's ambition was to sign with the Chicago Cubs and help his hero Ernie Banks lead the team to the pennant. It didn't quite work out that way, but the hard-nosed, under publicized Cub captain probably seems more likable and complex as a tragic hero than he would have been in victory, and Brosnan relives all those heartbreaking losing seasons -- probably in more detail than Cub fans will care to remember.
