KIRKUS REVIEW

Characterizing Simmons as a ""burly, aggressive, combative catcher"" who ""whacks them from the right and whacks them from the left,' Brosnan charts his nine seasons with the St. Louis Cardinals who have steadily expressed their faith and upped his salary to the present $200,000 a year. Otherwise it's no spectacular rise for 1968's Rookie of the Year--more a matter of ups and downs, which Brosnan chronicles in the obligatory semi-snappy manner.
