A somewhat different slant from the straight adventure of Man-Eaters of Kumaon, this is a sharing of accumulated knowledge, a growing philosophy rooted in the years of learning to know the jungle and its ways. Corbett tells in a delightfully- and deceptively- personal way how he grew accustomed to the life, how he learned to identify birds by their calls and animals by their tracks, how he come to know what was happening in the jungle through the reactions of the animals. He illustrates with stories that support the reader's wildest conjectures about jungle life in India . This- in strict application- could teach boy scouts and armchair hunters how to survive if thrust into jungle life. Amazingly enough, this is as good reading as its predecessors and can be recommended to all Corbett fans.
