Four wordless episodes which find farmer Nathaniel (1978) more or less coping with the rigors of rural life. In the first, ""Mud Time,"" he turns to a cow for transport after his car sinks to the roof; in the second, he solves the problem of weather-vane birds that fly away, a weather-vane fish that leaps into a pond, by substituting an immobile weather-vane house. Numbers three and four involve him, less imaginatively, in picking apples and gathering eggs--in the latter instance, he's simply butted by an ornery ram. The drawings have a scraggly humor but that's about it.
