Ulysses Grant Jones, a distant descendant of the general, fights a jinx as each undertaking in which he is involved ends in impossible disaster. When his awkwardness proves him as ill-equipped for the contracting business as it already has for numerous other careers, Ulysses, fresh out of high school, undertakes to serve as winter custodian for a Southwestern Sportsman's Club. Here the whimsy and imagination which has jinxed his past enterprises serves him well, for he organizes the weak animals against the strong in an ambitious military maneuver, proves himself a more than adequate employee, and achieves for himself a status worthy of his noted progenitor.
