AT THE OKLAHOMA LAND RUN

By

Publisher: Grosset & Dunlap

Kjelgaard could have handled this story of the border rush to obtain free land better on his own, without the imposition of a set pattern. The story of the famous run is seen through the eyes of Cindy son whose father and Peter Brent are partners in staking their claims on the appointed day. An alert 12-year old, Cindy dashes after her father when she finds he has left his rifle behind. Her older brother Alec follows with a supply wagon. Left behind are Mrs. Simpson, Cindy's twin sister, Mindy, and the Brents. When the run has been made and the claim must be registered, Alec and Cindy are left to guard the superstitious half-breed tries to jump the claim, and Cindy- with the help of Mindy who has joined her- scare him off with a twin magic act.
