KIRKUS REVIEW

An excellent dog and horse accented sequel to A Nose for Trouble in which the young game warden Tom Rainse, his hound Smoky and his pinto Pete, are part and party to thrillingly maneuvered poacher trapping adventures. With his knack for chanelling nature lore and bush know-how into his narrative, Kjelgaard makes a good yarn when Tom and his friend Buck Brunt and a conservation-conscious retired lumberman, Mark Orsway, track a gang who, in search of low timber prices, are out to thwart a regional park project. A reliable on-the-trail story, filled with suspense and the kind of detecting that should give a ranger's manual a run for its money.
