Eagle Johnson, an experienced turfman, knew all there was to know about horses, but he couldn't make John Silver, his latest purchase, behave. But Ted Dawson, the small jockey apprentice, had faith in the wild horse that nobody could break. Underfed as the horse was, Ted surmised that maltreatment accounted for his dangerous behaviour. With constant kindness, he gentled the animal to the point where boy and horse take first place in a great race at Santa Rita. For the indefatigable horse market, content with standard brand.
