FOR THE LOVE OF MIKE

For the love of Mike, Jo Hoyt has travelled the world, kit, kiddies and kaboodle, and experienced desolating fear. Her story starts out like that of other foreign servicemen's wives. They met through Los Alamos, married young and started life in a trailer that gave her the feel of efficient packing that would come in useful through the years. Their first post was Karachi, where they had ""an archaic kitchen and more servants than rooms,"" where they witnessed the coronation of Aga Khan and the celebration of Phelps' third birthday with a cake full of flying birds (the gift of the cook). Then there was Casablanca, where they became friends with Princess Lalla Aisha and where Evans was born. Then Leopoldville, where Mike manuevered the Investment Guaranty Agreement, then Stanleyville where they ran into trouble with a capital T. Jo and Evans were evacuated, Mike stayed on as a hostage to the rebels whose life hung on the ""hate-driven, drug twisted wills of unknown men."" Jo had to wait 110 days for the one that brought him out alive, after escaping from fire that killed Paul Carlson. Jo Hoyt's story wears the new look in foreign service along with wifely durables and should appeal to the distaff side.
