THE MOUNTIES: MOUNTAINS: The Story of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police

Here...is the blueprint for what a Mountie must be: upright, intelligent, resourceful and courageous."" And there, on the cover, in living color, he proudly sits on his horse, scarlet jacket ablaze in the sun. Inside, there is much diverse information about the history of the Mounted Police and Canada ranging from the Diamond Jubilee to the Doukhobors, and less information about the present day force--men, duties, horses, dogs and bands. This has some potential as the only pictorial treatment for the age level, but its appeal is limited by the posed photos (on double-column pages) and the self-congratulatory tone: Mr. Mike wouldn't have wanted it this way.
