SADDLE A THUNDERBOLT

Everything goes wrong for Bruce Hubbard one summer; with Dad in the hospital and Mother at his side, he's alone on the ranch with one trouble after another. First the horse Dad counted on to win the Cowboy Races and put the family out of debt is killed by lightning; then a neighbor's treachery robs him of his hard-won stallion Rival, stalked, captured and trained in the main sequence of the book; finally that same neighbor cheats Bruce out of Rival's son, just cured of his kicking habit. Dad arrives home broken-spirited, but at last their luck changes: Bruce buys back Rival for a low price, and they win the Cowboy Race, earning the money to save the farm. Though the outline is horse opera, the action is terrific.
