THE CENTRAL MESSAGE OF THE NEW TESTAMENT

The substance of this volume was presented as The Hewett Lectures at Union Theological Seminary in 1963, and later elsewhere, by one of the foremost European New Testament scholars. Four themes are treated: Abba-- God as Father--""Christianity began at Easter""; The Sacrificial Death, which the author finds set forth in Hebrews, and traces to its roots in Isaiah 53; Justification by Faith, with Paul serving as the best interpreter of Christ; and The Revealing Word, dealing with the Logos concept of John 1. Though eminently scholarly, the lectures are informative and readable for the lay reader who has a basic knowledge of, and interest in, Christology.
