Without any of the arrantly exaggerated and dictatorial postulates of the Engelmanns (earlier this year, Give Your Child a Superior Mind) Mrs. Beck, a Chicago Tribune columnist, discusses the in-trend toward early learning. Much of it is based on the recent and seemingly reliable professional studies coming out of various universities and clinics and a good deal of it is comparable to the feature coverage this topic has had in many magazines ever since the Doman book. Nothing she says here is really too strenuous for either mother or child and most of it consists of providing the proper habitat for stimulating the child's natural curiosity and creativity at various stages (birth to 18 months; 18 months to three years; three to six). Toys, books and games are all indicated; so is teaching your preschooler to read, and how; and of course many of the original Dr. Montessori's recommendations are adapted for home usage. The title while an allure is not a guaranty, but the chances are that given the interested encouragement at home, your child will learn more easily and more quickly.
