A return appearance for that ornamental Oriental, Nuri bey, takes him from Istanbul and his willing enslavement by the half Russian Tamara to Oxford, to search for her missing son, Jason. Also missing is a girl, Ronda, an addict; and very much present is Arnika, the partner of Tamara's murdered husband who has planted fields of poppies. This is more diverting than inscrutable-- the story's on the simple side but it's told with a certain panache, and readers enjoy her, reviewers salaam.
