These nine very brief nature studies in the form of conversations between animals, insects and birds contain a great amount of information. The metamorphosis of the caterpillar, strange nocturnal habits of the bat, the hard work of the bees, and the life cycles and feeding habits of other small inhabitants of the fields and woods, are presented in a quiet, simple style. There is little action of the Burgess sort, and the animals and birds are lecturers rather than actors, but as an introduction to nature study this is an attractive little book for a small child.
