GOOD MORNING, I'M JOAN LUNDEN

This is a story about television--how it works and what it takes to succeed in Networkland. In Lunden's case, all it took was lots of work, good looks, heavy doses of luck and a terrific wardrobe. That's it! That's all you need to know! And that's pretty much all you get in this tale about a California lady who ended up working in her dream job--co-host of ABC's Good Morning America. The style here is chatty and informal, with more attention paid to the dress Joan chooses for the day than to the person she's to interview (but then, as is made too painfully clear, that work is always done by someone else). This story has much to do with style and looks and designer dresses made to match the season of the year, little with substance. You gain no idea of how good a newswoman Lunden is (though you can venture a guess). You don't even get a sense (beyond the ""Golly gee, is it really me?"" stuff) that she even likes the job. Her relationship with co-workers, especially the rumored-to-be-difficult David Hartman, a failed actor turned anchorman/host/newsman? Her family? What it's really like in the middle of a hectic TV set, the daily pressures, the repetition, the enjoyment? Nothing. A channel turner.
