This attractive collection of fifteen well known folk stories includes Greek, Roman, Norse and English legends. The author wisely concentrates on single incidents and each story has a vivid, dramatic quality although the vocabulary is simple and the style is easy and readable. Also the inclusion of some explanatory material concerning the locals of the stories and the dashing traditional illustrations in two colors by Hubert Whately help project the flavor of the legend. Bound in cloth with a gay jacket this is a bargain.
